After getting booted out of a woodworking class at the age of 13, he began acting in school. Hodge competed in rugby and began to pursue it as a career. When he was 21, he seriously hurt his knee during a game and had to use a wheelchair to recover. Soon after, Hodge returned to New York to attend acting school at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and later moved to Los Angeles after graduating in 2016.[Hodge auditioned for the role of Andrew, Molly’s romantic interest, in Season 3 of Insecure. He was cast in the part, and as a result, he rose to prominence. The character was dubbed “Asian Bae” by the show’s social media followers.
On Season 4 of the show, he was promoted to regular cast member. Hodge has commented on how important it is to have an Asian character that is “confident” and “outspoken” since it defies misconceptions about Asian men. Hodge has been in shows such as Modern Family, High Maintenance, Law & Order, and Tommy. Hodge appeared as Philky on The CW’s Black Lightning in 2021. He reprised the character in the backdoor spin-off series Painkiller, which was not picked up by the network. Hodge was cast as a minor character in the film Which Brings Me To You in 2022. He plays a supporting role in Adele Lim’s upcoming film Joy Ride.
