Al Terzi Career

Al began working as a staff announcer for WTIC-AM-FM-TV in June 1968. Travelers Insurance owned the station. Terzi remained as a newscaster and talk show host after The Washington Post purchased the television station in 1973 and renamed it WFSB. When New England Journal, a one-hour daily talk show, debuted in 1974, he was the original host. Terzi remained as a news co-anchor until June 1978, when he left to become News Anchor, then News Director, at WPEC-TV12 (ABC) in West Palm Beach, FL. Terzi was seriously injured in October 1978 when the twin-engine Cessna he was piloting, along with four other WPEC senior staff members, experienced engine/fuel problems on approach to the Tallahassee, FL airport.

Terzi moved back to Connecticut in April 1980 to work as a prime anchor for WTNH in New Haven. He stayed there until January 1994, when he was called back to WFSB. Terzi’s coworker Janet Peckinpaugh claimed Terzi sexually harassed her while the two were anchoring at WTNH. In 1995, Peckinpaugh was fired from WFSB. She filed a lawsuit against the previous owners of WFSB (Post-Newsweek) and made allegations about Terzi in court. Peckinpaugh was awarded more than $8 million, but the case was settled out of court. Terzi has won two Emmys since rejoining Channel 3. The first was for a series of specials on the University of Connecticut Huskies basketball team, and the second was for “Best Newscast.”
