Jay Schadler hitchhiked approximately 20,000 miles throughout America over the course of five years, interviewing and relaying the tales of ordinary people. The excursions were first shown on ABC News’ “Prime Time” as “Looking for America.” Later, with his longtime producer and friend, Robert Campos, the adventures continued for the Bravo Network under the moniker “Taillights.” Mr. Schadler was welcomed into Oprah Winfrey’s show in 2000, along with a few of the people that picked him up along the way. Mr.Schadler’s hitchhiking stories are sometimes recognized as forerunners to the “reality tv” craze, having helped pioneer the use of small video cameras and dash cams in cars. In 1996, “Looking for America” received an Emmy nomination. Jay formerly presented Justice Files, a Discovery Channel series that analyzed real-life crime cases and featured commentary from legal professor Arthur Miller as well as reporting from other ABC News projects.
