Spencer went to the NBC website program after college, where she would volunteer to work with other reporters to gain experience. From there, she landed a job as a reporter, producer, editor, cameraman, and news-van driver at CBS affiliate WDEF-TV in Chattanooga, Tennessee, where she was basically a one-man group.” She joined News 12 Long Island a year later and two years after that she anchored WABC-TV’s 3 AM newscast. While there, she covered the crash of TWA Flight 800, which was considered her big break. She then joined ABC’s Good Morning America as a national reporter in 1999.
Spencer was the creator and executive producer of It’s Worth What a prime time game show. Hosted by Cedric the Entertainer, which premiered on NBC during the summer of 2011. Spencer has produced and produced two shows focused on her passion for interior design, a one-hour special named I Brake for Yard Sales that originally aired on HGTV in April 2012, and a television series on the flea market currently airing on Great American Country called Flea Market Flip.
The first book by Spencer, I Brake for Yard Sales, a guide on how to build high-end looking rooms using second-hand findings, was written and released in April 2012. She hosted the 87th Miss America pageant at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey, in September 2013, along with Chris Harrison, in which Spencer replaced Brooke Burke-Charvet.
