Zulekha recalled how she had been on diets since she was eight years old, and how she had tried every diet imaginable, but the weight always came back with a bit extra.Zulekha also said that her mother, Iman, was the one who introduced her to her first diet, “Basta.” When she was overeating, the fashion model, who was big on healthy eating, would always say “Basta” (which means “enough” in Italian).
Her second diet, “Eat Like a Pig, Run Like a Horse,” she claimed, was recommended to her by her father, basketball player Spencer. The routine did not restrict her food intake, but it did include a strenuous workout regimen that included four hours of training per day at a tennis camp.The results were fantastic, and she had lost 30 pounds and could fit into skin-tight clothes by the time she returned to school. Zulekha acknowledges that she lacked the discipline to control what she ate or continue training four hours a day, so she put on an extra 20 pounds.
As she grew older, she vowed to be confident in her appearance and live her best life despite weighing more than 300 pounds. For a long time, everything seemed fine, until she realized her life could be cut short due to weight-related health issues. Zulekha ultimately chose to get gastric bypass surgery after years of dealing with her weight and trying various diets. She was able to lose 165 pounds from 330 pounds in the months that followed.
