Zoe Quinn Depression Quest

Depression Quest, one of Quinn’s early works, was envisioned as a “choose-your-own path” adventure describing the hard life of a person suffering from depression, with many of the “correct” pathways barred due to the protagonist’s battle with mental self-care. Quinn thought that enforcing a set of constraints on players who might not face similar challenges in their daily life would be an excellent method to convey despair. In February 2013, Depression Quest was released. Quinn submitted the game to the Steam Greenlight service twice, once in December 2013 and again in August 2014, when it was accepted and distributed on Steam. Depression Quest was mentioned as one of numerous video games dealing with the subjective experience of depression in a Playboy article.

Zoe Quinn Career

She took a six-week video game development course before starting her own. She created the game ‘Depression Quest,’ an interactive fiction game about depression, after suffering from depression as a teenager. She hoped to raise awareness about depression through this game, which received praise from critics for its depiction of depression and educational value. She later founded the Game Developer Help List in order to connect experienced and novice game developers. She is also a writer and has contributed chapters to the books ‘The State of Play: Sixteen Voices on Video Games’ and ‘Videogames for Humans,’ among other literary pursuits.
