During the Bosnian War, US Navy flight officer Chris Burnett and pilot Lieutenant Jeremy Stackhouse are stationed in the Adriatic Sea on the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson. Burnett is about to leave the Navy and has a falling out with his commanding officer, Admiral Leslie Reigart. They see Serb Volunteer Guard soldiers mass-burying massacred Bosniak civilians. General Miroslav Lokar, the local Bosnian Serb paramilitary commander, orders the downing of their plane. The rescue beacon in his ejection seat activates, alerting NATO aircrew that he is still alive and alerting the Serbs to his location. The Serbs believe they have discovered his body, but Sasha realizes Burnett disguised himself as a dead guerrilla and escaped. To ensure Burnett’s rescue, Reigart informs Sky News of the downed plane, infuriating Piquet. Lokar is arrested and convicted of genocide as a result of Burnett’s hard drive.
