Vanessa O’Hanlon Nine Network

In November 2016, the Nine Network announced that O’Hanlon, along with experienced news presenters Jo Hall and Samantha Heathwood, would anchor its new regional news service, which would launch in 2017 across the Australian Capital Territory, southern New South Wales, Victoria, and Queensland. O’Hanlon was lured to the idea since the new service touched areas that hadn’t seen local news in a long time.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Nine Network halted regional bulletins in March 2020. As a result, O’Hanlon was assigned to reporting duties on Nine’s Late News. Natassia Soper replaced O’Hanlon as regional bulletin editor in August. O’Hanlon was a frequent on Today and the Chat Room feature on Nine News Now, the national afternoon newscast. She also filled in as a news anchor on Weekend Today. O’Hanlon announced her resignation from the Nine Network in September 2020.

O’Hanlon began her career as a drive announcer at Sun 969 in Alice Springs before going on to another radio station in Shepparton, Victoria, after completing a radio programme jointly sponsored by Swinburne University and the Australian Film, Television, and Radio School. She later worked as the music director for a radio station in Darwin, Northern Territory.

O’Hanlon then relocated to Melbourne, where she worked as a traffic reporter for the Australian Traffic Network, providing traffic updates to Sunrise, Ten News First, 3AW, and Fox FM. She also hosted Melbourne After Dark, a late-night radio show on Mix 101.1.
