In 1993, McEwing joined KTTV FOX 11 to anchor Fox 11 Morning News and also co-anchored Good Day LA from April 1994 to April 1995. He was awarded the Emmy Awards for his half-hour episode “Songs of Our Success” in 2001 and 2003. He filed a three-part article on the Los Angeles Mission’s year-long recovery initiative, which received an Emmy Award in Los Angeles in 1997.
These stories were later assembled into Mission of Hope’s half-hour news special. They received the National Iris Award in the Best Current Affairs category, won the Golden Mike Award for Best Documentary, and won the National Emmy Award in 1998. During his time at Fox 11, McEwing received seven Emmy awards in 2018.
He anchored three hours of uninterrupted live coverage of the North Hollywood Bank Shootout and also filed live Chicago updates at the 1996 Democratic National Convention.
