Todrick Hall is a singer, choreographer, and YouTuber from the United States. He gained national attention on the ninth season of the televised singing competition American Idol. Following that, he amassed a massive YouTube following with viral videos that included original songs, parodies, and skits. He was cast as an ensemble member as well as an understudy for the role of Harpo. Following The Color Purple, he appeared in Memphis: The Musical, as well as touring productions of Beauty and the Beast, Radio City Christmas Spectacular with the Rockettes, and Hairspray. He performed Kelly Clarkson’s “Since U Been Gone” in the Top 24 and Tina Turner’s “What’s Love Got to Do with It” in the Top Twenty. On March 11, 2010, he was eliminated from the competition in the Top 16 after performing Queen’s “Somebody to Love” in the Top 16. He was disqualified by Judge Simon Cowell as “nothing beyond a Broadway actor” since he was somewhere between 13th and 16th overall. He eventually regretted keeping his sexuality a secret on the program and joined the Broadway production of Memphis.
