Tina Mabry Career
In 2005, Mabry debuted in the film industry with the short film Brooklyn’s Bridge to Jordan. She wrote the film Itty Bitty Titty Committee in 2007. Jamie Babbit directed the film, which had its world premiere at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival.
Mississippi Damned, which Mabry also wrote and acknowledges draws from aspects of her own life, was her feature film directorial debut in 2009. Kodak provided her with a film stock grant, allowing her to film it. The film was a hit at film festivals, winning awards at the Chicago International Film Festival, Outfest, American Black Film Festival, and Urbanworld Film Festival, among others. Mabry has written and directed two episodes of FutureStates produced by ITVS, including Ant starring Guillermo Daz, which premiered on Showtime in 2011 and is currently streaming on Netflix thanks to Ava DuVernay’s ARRAY. Mabry was hired as a producer, writer, and director on Ava DuVernay and Oprah Winfrey’s OWN series Queen Sugar in 2015.
