Renkow started doing stand-up comedy in Memphis when he was 19 years old. He maintained this activities in New York City before relocating to the United Kingdom to study creative writing in 2012. He took part in the Chortle Student Comedy Award Final at the 2013 Edinburgh Fringe. Renkow’s debut show, At Least Hell Has Ramps, earned him a nomination for Chortle’s Best Newcomer Award. Renkow made his debut television appearance in 2016, in an episode of BBC Comedy Feeds called A Brief History of Tim. Renkow appears in four episodes of Bobby & Harriet Get Married, a comedy television series about Bobby Mair and Harriet Kemsley’s wedding.
BBC Three premiered the first season of Renkow’s television series, Jerk, in February 2019. It was later aired on BBC One, and a second series was approved in September 2019. The series was mostly based on the characters established in A Brief History of Tim. The show’s second season premiered in 2021. Renkow’s one-man show, Tim Renkow Tries to Punch Down, debuted at London’s Soho Theatre in April 2019. Renkow was named to the BAFTA Breakthrough Initiative’s UK jury in 2021. He appeared on an episode of BBC’s Live At The Apollo Series 16.
