Thalia Assuras Career

Assuras previously co-hosted The Saturday Early Show. She also co-anchored CBS News’ weekday morning news broadcast, This Morning in 1999, and anchored the CBS Morning News in the early morning. Since 1997, she has worked as a CBS News correspondent, reporting for a variety of CBS News broadcasts. She has reported on numerous international stories, including reports from Iraq, where she covered the United States’ military action following Saddam Hussein’s fall and was one of the first television journalists to report live from Tikrit only hours after his capture. She also reported on the aftermath of a deadly earthquake in Bam, Iran, as well as the Kosovo refugee crisis in Albania.

Assuras has also covered a variety of domestic stories, including the 9/11 attacks in New York, the Elian Gonzalez scandal, and Hurricane Floyd, and has interviewed world leaders ranging from President Bill Clinton to the late Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin. She has also filled in on the CBS Morning News and This Morning. Prior to that, Assuras was co-anchor of “Eye on People,” a live daily program about people in the news that aired on the CBS cable channel in 1997.She came to CBS News from ABC, where she was an anchor for “World News Now” and “World News This Morning” and a general assignment correspondent from 1993 to 1996.

Previously, she hosted “Canada AM,” CTV’s morning newscast, co-hosted “Canada AM Weekend,” and filled in on “CTV Weekend News.” Assuras was also a field correspondent. She has received several journalism awards, including the Marie Torre Memorial Award in 2001, a Sigma Delta Chi Award for Journalism, a Canadian MediaWatch Award, and a Journalism Award from the University of Western Ontario.
