Rothery began taking dance lessons at the age of nine and considered it the beginning of her career in entertainment in 1995. Her first professional performances were in the musical Bye Bye Birdie at the age of 13 and The Sound of Music at the Marpole Community Theatre at the age of 14. She danced on The Irish Rovers variety television series as a child, and at the age of 18, she made her television debut in a Canadian Broadcasting Corporation Halloween special. Rothery worked and performed for CJAZ-FM, KISS-FM, and CKWX between the ages of 19 and 27.
Rothery was nominated for a Jessie Richardson Theatre Award (2006-2007) in the category of “Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role, Small Theatre” for her performance in A Delicate Balance. For her work in Coffee Diva, she was nominated for a Leo Award in 2008 (in the category of “Best Performance by a Female in a Short Drama”); she was nominated again in 2009 (“Best Supporting Performance by a Female in a Dramatic Series”) for her work on The Guard. Two more Leo nominations came for her performance in The Collector and as Janet Fraiser in Stargate SG-1.
