She volunteered for the YMCA program Youth and Government while attending James Logan High School, an organization dedicated to involving and educating young people in the political process. She also participated in the school’s forensics squad, where she did expository speaking. She finished eighth in the state of California in 1992. KGO-TV, the ABC affiliate in San Francisco, interviewed her for the news show Straight Talk ‘N Teens. After seeing the story, the program director for another station invited her to host the teen-focused magazine show First Cut on KRON, the then-NBC affiliate in San Francisco. This “after-school job” introduced Pak to the world of entertainment. Ice-T was her first big interview on the show.

Pak was discovered again while studying political science at the University of California, Berkeley, when the producer of a PBS science documentary called Newton’s Apple watched a film of her. She was approached by ZDTV, a cable network focused to technology and the Internet, after graduating. She was hired as a KRON correspondent after a year of working on Internet Tonight, a daily half-hour show on ZDTV. She sent a tape to the new cable network Oxygen in order to leave San Francisco. She was hired as a host for the show Trackers after a year-long audition process and relocated to New York City. MTV noticed her and she quickly became MTV’s first Asian face.

She has covered the MTV Movie Awards, the Sundance Film Festival, and the MTV Video Music Awards, and she co-hosted MTV’s pre-Grammy show with Kurt Loder. As a correspondent for “MTV Daily News,” she has interviewed Mariah Carey, *NSYNC, P. Diddy, George Lucas, Jane’s Addiction, Mary J. Blige, Billy Idol, and Fred Durst. On March 6, 2012, she hosted Demi Lo.

Pak departed MTV News for Planet Green in 2008 to co-host G Word with Daniel Sieberg. Pak returned to MTV News in 2010 to anchor the VMAs Pre Show. Pak recently hosted the National Constitution Center’s “The Exchange,” a program in which high school students debate current constitutional issues. Pak was appointed as the new on-air correspondent for DailyCandy, a New York-based email newsletter. In 2016, she co-hosted People’s List, an ABC weekly summer primetime infotainment series based on People magazine. Pak joined Lemonada Media’s podcast slate in October 2020 as the co-host of the new show Add to Cart alongside comedian and actress Kulap Vilaysack.
