Before making it to national television, he hosted Kids News, a children’s news program created at the WIN Television facilities in Wollongong. In April 2020, Nine Radio announced that Jacobs would begin hosting a new breakfast radio show on 2UE, 4BH, 6GT, and Magic 1278 on April 27.

Since then, he has appeared in a number of Nine Network programs, the first of which was All Together Now, which aired from 1991 to 1993. Jacobs stepped in for Kerri-Anne Kennerley while she was abroad. Jacobs revealed in December 2016 that he will be leaving Today to spend more time with his family. In 2017, he replaced Natalia Cooper as the weather presenter for Weekend Today.

Jacobs returned to Today in August 2018 to fill in for Natalia Cooper while she was on vacation. It was revealed at the time that Jacobs would host the inaugural season of the Nine Network’s new travel series Helloworld, which premiered on October 7, 2018, with Jacobs hosting in Vanuatu. However, from series two onwards, he, Denis Walter, Sonia Kruger, and Lauren Phillips were replaced by Giaan Rooney on the Seven Network.

Jacobs’ return to Today as a weather presenter was announced in January 2019. Jacobs left the show again in December, and was replaced by Tim Davies.
