Colletti was approached to feature on MTV’s planned reality television series Laguna Beach: The Real Orange County, which portrayed the lives of privileged teenagers, in 2004. The show first aired in September of 2004. Colletti and the rest of the actors from the first season returned for a second season. His performance in the series was described by the New York Times in 2006 as “still striving to gain some charisma to animate his hero features.” Colletti did not return for the third season of the show. He attended San Francisco State University for a year after graduating from high school before returning to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career. Colletti made an appearance as himself in an episode of another MTV Reality TV show in 2007.
Colletti was cast in a big recurring role for the fourth season of The CW’s teen drama series One Tree Hill in January 2007. Colletti played Chase Adams, a high school student who intends to save money till he marries. Colletti remained a key recurrent character in the subsequent seasons. Colletti was confirmed as a core series regular for the eighth season of the series in November 2010. Colletti’s regular status was maintained when The CW renewed the series for its ninth and final season in May 2011. On April 4, 2012, the series finale “One Tree Hill” aired.
Colletti and fellow One Tree Hill castmate James Lafferty created and collaborated on the first season of Everyone Is Doing Great, an original comedy. Colletti and Lafferty successfully funded their first season through a crowdfunding effort in August 2018. Colletti acted as Seth Stewart and worked as a writer, editor, and producer on the show. During the first season, he also directed one episode. In January of 2021, the series premiered on Hulu. Colletti performed the romantic interest in Taylor Swift’s music video “White Horse” in February 2009.
