Robinson began her career as a reporter and morning news reader for KGTV-TV in San Diego in 1979. She moved to KMGH-TV in Denver as a consumer reporter in 1982. Robinson started WBBM-TV in 1984 as a consumer reporter and was eventually elevated to news anchor. Robinson worked for WBBM-TV until 1987, when she left to work for WFLD-TV in Chicago as part of the station’s first nightly news anchoring duo, alongside fellow KMGH veteran Kris Long. According to a June 24, 1987 Chicago Sun-Times story, Robinson turned down an invitation to return to KGTV in San Diego as an anchor. Longtime Chicago news anchor Walter Jacobson joined Robinson on the anchor desk in 1993.

Robinson and Jacobson collaborated until Jacobson’s retirement in 2006. Robinson and Bob Sirott co-anchored WFLD’s late local news. She has received a number of local Emmy awards for her work. She has also appeared as a Fox Chicago reporter alongside Bob Sirott on many episodes of Fox’s The Chicago Code. After 26 years as the weeknight anchor of WFLD’s 9 p.m. newscast, Robinson retired in November 2013. She was promoted to host of the station’s special series, ‘Chicago at the Tipping Point,’ which focused on the city’s rising violence. She held that position until July 28, 2014, when she left WFLD following a 27-year tenure.

She was appointed as a fill-in anchor/reporter for WBBM (AM) NewsRadio 780 in April 2015. She was hired to host her own show on WVON-FM on May 12, 2015. Robinson and former colleague and presenter Lauren Cohn joined ‘In The Loop,’ a half-hour public affairs news program on WYCC, Chicago’s PBS station, in September 2015. She worked for the Chicago Police Department as a public outreach officer under Rahm Emanuel’s mayoralty. Lori Lightfoot’s mayoralty saw Robinson leave this position. On December 1, 2011, while chatting with another on-air reporter during a live 9 p.m. newscast, Robinson stated, “There is no Santa.” The station received countless phone calls and emails in response to her remark.
