Schmitt got his start in journalism in Miami, Florida. According to his Facebook page, he worked as a weekend anchor at ABC affiliate WPLG-TV in 2008. Schmitt moved from southern Florida to southern California after three years. In 2011, he joined CBS Los Angeles as an anchor, and in 2013, he joined WNBC-TV in New York City as an anchor. He joined Fox News in 2016, where he was a co-host on Fox Nation with Carley Shimkus and a co-anchor on Fox & Friends First with Jillian Mele.
