Rick Edwards Career

For numerous years, Edwards hosted The Weekender, a Saturday evening radio show on XFM; his last episode was on January 10, 2009. He was also a member of the BBC presenting crew for their coverage of the Reading and Leeds festivals. Edwards began presenting E4’s Tool Academy, a reality TV show about dissatisfied women who enroll their underperforming other halves in a school where “tools become men” in 2011. During the 2012 Paralympics, Edwards was part of the Channel 4 commentary team and co-presented That Paralympic Show with Ade Adepitan.

In 2013, Edwards co-hosted BBC Three’s political discussion show Free Speech with Tina Daheley. During the 2015 general election, they ran a number of Free Speech programs. As a writer, his original film Burger Van Champion was commissioned as part of C4’s Coming Up strand in 2013 and was acclaimed as “a remarkable debut” by the Observer and “funny, touching [and] superbly written” by Time Out. Edwards began presenting Safeword, an ITV2 panel program, in July 2015, and it returned for a second series in 2016.

In March 2016, Edwards joined Bec Hill as an anchor on Sky’s DC Fancast. He claims this is the pinnacle of his career. In January 2017, Edwards started presenting!mpossible, a midday BBC One quiz program. Beginning in March 2019, Edwards costarred in History’s miniseries River Hunters alongside YouTuber and river hunter Beau Ouimette.

In September 2021, BBC Radio 5 Live announced that Edwards would co-host its new breakfast show with Rachel Burden. The new-look 5 Live Breakfast premiered on November 8, 2021, following Nicky Campbell’s shift to a later time in the day.
