Among Carey’s, notable reporting assignments was covering Fort Hood in Texas, the world’s largest military installation. She also spent a week in Bosnia, where she finished a four-part series about soldiers from the 1st US Cavalry stationed there. While at KMOV, she received the Houston Association of Black Journalists’ “Emerging Journalist” award and won an Emmy for consumer features reporting.

Carey is a member of the Girls Scouts of Greater Atlanta board of directors, as well as Men Stopping Violence, an organization dedicated to ending male violence against women. She also hosts “What Matters,” a weekly segment on HLN that focuses on the most pressing issues and concerns that African-Americans face. She joined HLN/CNN in 2006 and is based in Atlanta at the network’s global headquarters.
