Chenault-Fattah began working as an anchor and reporter for WCAU, Philadelphia’s CBS TV affiliate, in September 1991. After a few years of anchoring the noon program alongside Tim Lake, she was elevated to the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts in March 1995. By then, WCAU had become Philadelphia’s NBC affiliate. Lake joined Chenault as a co-anchor at 4 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. in 2003, after previously co-anchoring newscasts at 6 and 11 with Ken Matz and Larry Mendte for eight years. The criminal case involving her husband, Congressman Chaka Fattah, made it increasingly impossible for Chenault-Fattah to continue working as an anchor, and she took a seven-month sabbatical after his indictment.

Finally, she quit the station on February 24, 2016. Although she was named in her husband’s business dealings, Chenault-Fattah was never charged with anything related to the acts that resulted in his conviction. Chenault-Fattah serves on the board of trustees at Johns Hopkins University. After several years on the board of directors, Chenault-Fattah was chosen Executive Director of Philadelphia Lawyers for Social Equity, a non-profit that helps low-income Philadelphians overcome barriers generated by previous criminal histories.
