He appeared as Raja in the third season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. He was a member of the “Heathers” clique, named after the popular cult film Heathers. Raja was declared the winner of the show’s third season and crowned America’s Next Drag Superstar in the final episode, following a lip-sync battle with Manila Luzon. Amrullah toured the United States and Canada on Logo’s Drag Race Tour in 2011 as part of his duties as Drag Race’s third-season winner. Raja is RuPaul’s Drag Race’s first and only Asian American winner.
Raja performed a lip-sync duet with Manila Luzon to the Babymetal song “Gimme Chocolate!!” on the Drag Race Battle of the Seasons tour in 2014. From 2005 to 2009, Amrullah worked as a make-up artist on America’s Next Top Model. Amrullah released his first single as Raja, “Diamond Crowned Queen,” in May 2011. The single peaked at number thirty-five on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs chart after debuting at number fifty. His second single, “Sublime,” was released on August 21, 2012. Her third single, “Zubi Zubi Zubi,” was released on June 1, 2013 (roughly translating to “Dance Dance Dance”).
He has co-hosted the weekly WOWPresents YouTube series RuPaul’s Drag Race Fashion Photo RuView with fellow Drag Race alumna Raven since 2014. In February 2017, he appeared in the music video for Blondie’s single “Fun” as an intergalactic creature. He also appeared in David LaChapelle’s “Make Love Not Walls” Diesel campaign, as well as an Urban Decay campaign with fellow Drag Race alumni Alaska, Jiggly Caliente, and Katya.
