On Dec. 20, 2015, the former Miss Colombia went through a dramatic journey as host Steve Harvey mistakenly proclaimed her name as the Miss Universe winner before clarifying that he had read the teleprompter incorrectly and that Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach was the true winner. Despite the fact that she isn’t close to Pia, she believes that the two will be able to reconcile someday.

On January 25, 2015, in Doral, Florida, Paulina Vega was crowned Miss Universe 2014, defeating 87 other candidates. She is the second Colombian to win Miss Universe in 56 years, following Miss Universe 1958 Luz Marina Zuluaga. Vega plans to spend her year-long reign lecturing on humanitarian causes and promoting HIV/AIDS education around the world. Vega headed to Doral, Florida, in early March to compete in the World Golf Championships at the Trump National Doral Miami golf resort. Vega gave a public speech at the Women’s History Month Event 2015 in New York City on March 8, 2015.
She was also invited to launch the Yamamay for Miss Universe 2015 Swimwear Collection in Milan during the same week. Missosology’s Timeless Beauty 2014 competition was won by Vega. She is dedicated to fighting HIV and AIDS and supporting children and young people who are afflicted with the disease. Vega came to Bogotá, Colombia, on April 20, 2015, to be introduced as the new face of Falabella. People en Espaol magazine named Vega one of the 50 most beautiful Hispanic celebrities.
She was a special guest at RCN TV, where she met Luz Marina Zuluaga, Colombia’s first Miss Universe.
