Newton previously worked for CNN as an international security journalist. She was in charge of CNN’s coverage of the threat of global terrorism, including the implementation of anti-terrorism measures, community conflicts, immigration, and the impact these concerns have on the daily lives of many people, from the network’s London office.

Newton, a seasoned conflict and political writer, has covered wars in the Middle East, Kosovo, and the Balkans, as well as political affairs coverage from important G8, NATO, and Commonwealth summits. Newton used the trains to communicate with people about politics, topics, and candidates in the run-up to the 2016 UK election, often reporting live using a specially adapted rucksack that allowed for 24/7 live broadcast capabilities. Newton joined CNN in 2005 after a 12-year stint with CTV, a Canadian television network.
