Before focusing solely on television journalism, she worked as a marketing executive for Ralston Purina in Spain and a market researcher for Duquesne Purina in Paris. In 1987, she returned to Houston. Her first television work was with Telemundo’s Channel 48, which produced the first Spanish-language newscast. She started working for Houston Public Television in the early 1990s, following her graduation from Columbia University. For 22 years, she worked for the Public Broadcasting Service in Houston, Texas, at Channel 8. Her local talk show “Living Smart with Patricia Gras” broadcast on PBS stations. She also co-anchored Latina Voices: Smart chat on Houston PBS, an English-language internet-streamed chat program with a Latina viewpoint, until 2011. She was a delegate to the Nobel Women’s Initiative fact-finding expedition on violence against women in Mexico, which was led by Nobel Peace Laureate Jody Williams. In 1987, she returned to Houston. Her first television work was with Telemundo’s Channel 48, which produced the first Spanish-language newscast.
