Mastroianni is best known for his role as Joey Jeremiah in the Degrassi television franchise, playing the role as a student in Degrassi Junior High (1987–89) and Degrassi High (1989–91), and then reprising the role as an adult on Degrassi: The Next Generation (2001–06). In 1988, he received a Gemini Award for Degrassi Junior High. In 1989, the Ontario division of UNICEF Canada designated Mastroianni and other Degrassi cast members UNICEF Goodwill Ambassadors. Mastroianni and cast member Amanda Stepto paid a visit to the United Nations headquarters in New York. Mastroianni worked as a waiter and paver in his father’s construction company, and he dropped out of college to pursue acting after his university required him to dedicate all of his time to studying. He appeared in numerous Canadian shows, including Liberty Street and Music Works. In 1998, he was quoted as suggesting that there was “very little” prospect of a Degrassi sequel.
