Nina Hossain Career

Hossain’s desire to be a journalist began at a young age. She is a graduate of the University of Durham. She then earned a Postgraduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism from the University of Central Lancashire’s Journalism, Media, and Communication department in Preston.

She was selected for a traineeship at ITV Border on Lookaround in 1996, where she worked as a news presenter, producer, and reporter. She worked as a presenter for The Medical Channel in 2000. In 2001, she joined BBC London News as a presenter and reporter. She took over as the show’s main presenter in March 2004, when Emily Maitlis went on maternity leave.

She was the word pronouncer for the first series of Hard Spell, a BBC One spelling bee for kids. She reprised this role in a one-off episode of the spin-off Star Spell, but by the time Star Spell became a full series, she had moved to ITV and was replaced by BBC newsreader Mishal Husain, who continued in this role through the second series of Hard Spell.

Hossain joined ITN in November 2004 as the main co-presenter for the ITV Evening News on ITV while Mary Nightingale was on maternity leave. Following her return, Nightingale worked as a relief presenter for ITV London and ITV News. In April 2010, she was also a GMTV guest presenter, filling in for Lorraine Kelly on GMTV with Lorraine.

She took over for Katie Derham as a presenter of London Tonight in June 2010, initially alongside Donal MacIntyre. She did, however, become the sole presenter on November 1, 2010.
