She garnered good feedback for her affecting performance as the drug-addicted older sister of the titular protagonist in Boaz Yakin’s Fresh (1994). The next year, Wright portrayed an idealistic Black Panther Party member in the Hughes Brothers’ feature film Dead Presidents (1995). Wright portrayed Dr. Karen Jenson in Blade (1998). Wright played Claudia, a black civil rights activist striving for equitable educational opportunities, in the critically praised but short-lived NBC television drama I’ll Fly Away.
