Meyer Lansky and Charlie Luciano establish a thriving heroin distribution company from a New York card room. They prepare Siegel for a delivery in Harlem by concealing the narcotics in the inner of his coat and cap. Luciano makes it obvious that Siegel should walk away from the agreement if anything appears amiss, but Siegel quickly demonstrates that he has a revolver ready. This irritates both Luciano and Meyer, who advise Benny to put the rifle away for being irresponsible. Benny objects, stating that he is carrying a pound of heroin and should be able to defend himself. Luciano gives Benny cab fare and exits the room to begin his deliveries. Luciano and Meyer are left to discuss Masseria.

Luciano is irritated that they must pay Masseria a percentage of their new venture’s revenues, but Lansky explains that this is just temporary. He suggests that they approach Masseria as gentlemen.

Masseria is already aware of their plan and has a pair of his men assault Siegel as he departs for his next delivery. They strike near Luciano’s headquarters, seizing Siegel before he can shoot and proclaiming their loyalty. Lansky intervenes and shoots one of the guys in the head. The other thug flees and clutches to the door of his getaway car as the driver speeds away. Frustrated, Siegel pursues the truck without regard for his own safety.

He runs down the street, swearing loudly, and fires multiple shots at the van that is departing with Masseria’s men. Vowing to murder them, he ruthlessly reaches for the automobile and begins throwing rocks at it. Meyer holds Siegel firmly, stopping him from engaging any further acts of violent hooliganism.

Michael Zegen The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

He appeared as Joel Maisel, Midge’s estranged, later ex-husband, who leaves Midge for his secretary, Penny Pann in the American period comedy-drama television series The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. He is an ambitious, but untalented, stand-up comedian who imitates Bob Newhart’s performances. Joel leaves his uncle’s plastics company, works at his father’s clothing factory, and eventually launches his own nightclub. In the episode “Put That On Your Plate!”, Lenny Palmieri makes a guest appearance as Joel, aged thirteen.

Miriam “Midge” Maisel, a wealthy Jewish-American housewife, embarks on a stand-up comedy career in 1958 after her husband Joel abandons her following a disappointing performance at The Gaslight Cafe. She meets comedian Lenny Bruce and receives coaching from Gaslight manager Susie Myerson. Midge experiences harassment and blacklisting in clubs, but she eventually finds a break as the opening act for Shy Baldwin’s tour. She retools her performance for non-New York audiences as well as her career.
After their divorce, Midge and Joel continue to negotiate new relationships, with Midge becoming a humorous emcee at the Wolford burlesque club. From the 1960s until the 2000s, Midge becomes a huge comedic star, but her personal life is chaotic, with several marriages, lost loved ones, and strained relationships. Despite these obstacles, Midge and Joel stay close throughout the novel.
