Mercedes Soler is the co-owner and president of Solmart Media, a Sarasota, Florida-based Spanish radio and digital media company. Prior to this, she worked for Univisión for 25 years as a Spanish-language international correspondent and anchor for CNN Espaol.

Mercedes was born in Havana and lived there until she was nine years old. To protect their four daughters from a repressive communist dictatorship, her parents relocated the family to Spain before settling in Chicago. She attended Loyola University and graduated from high school there.[1] Mercedes describes herself as a news junkie, voracious reader, and foodie. A passion is visiting beaches, mountains, and art museums. Her husband and she are collectors of Cuban art.

Prior to this, she worked for Univisión for 25 years as a Spanish language international correspondent and anchor for CNN Espaol. She also contributed weekly columns to El Nuevo Herald and co-wrote Dish & Tell: Life, Love, and Secrets (HarperCollins). The book was turned into a musical and performed on stage. Mercedes also taught journalism to international Spanish language students at the University of Miami and coached media and press strategies to US diplomats based in Latin America as a State Department subcontractor. Mercedes currently serves on the boards of the John and Mabel Ringling Museum of Art, the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, and Campowerment’s Give her Camp.
She is a member of the International Women’s Forum and serves on the Advisory Committee of ISLAC, the University of South Florida Institute for the Study of Latin America and the Caribbean. Ms. Soler has received five Emmy Awards, one Peabody Award, and one GLAAD Award, among other honors. Her most valuable title is mamá to Victoria and Thomas, who are both postgraduate students in Philanthropic Management and Law, respectively. Soler worked as a senior correspondent and anchor for Univisión, covering stories in the United States and Latin America. Her stories included the September 11th terrorist attacks, the Space Shuttle Columbia disaster, and Celia Cruz and Mara Felix’s funerals.
Soler began working for CNN en Espaol in October 2010. Soler has spoken with Latin American presidents such as Alberto Fujimori, Miguel de la Madrid, Carlos Menem, Violeta Chamorro, Arnoldo Alemán, Abdalá Bucaram, Gustavo Noboa, and Ernesto Samper, as well as drug lord Carlos Lehder. She has five Emmy Awards and fifteen nominations.
