Doherty appeared on the television series Boston Public, alongside Northwestern graduate Jeri Ryan. He made a commercial parodying the sound effect from The Six Million Dollar Man. He is then corrected by Lee Majors, who plays the title character. Doherty will also appear in The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers, a Disney+ serial revival of the films, starring co-star Emilio Estevez as Lester Averman. He got started writing when he returned from the set of Mighty Ducks to his high school in South Suburban Chicago and asked the principle if he could study the differences between satire and tragedy within the same plot lines of “Fail Safe” and “Dr. Strangelove” and direct a production of a Gore Vidal satire as an independent study course.
