Marty Bass Career

He works as a television newscaster and weatherman on CBS-owned WJZ 13 in Baltimore, Maryland. Bass, known for his loud accent and outgoing personality, has been a regular on the station’s morning show for many years. Marty spent most of his career alongside anchor Don Scott, who retired in 2014. On February 9, 2006, Bass addressed a significant item of Baltimore folklore: the loss of his toupee in 1986. Bass spoke as part of local public radio station WYPR’s Stoop Storytelling Series on going bald in his early/mid-20s and how his TV news bosses insisted on him wearing a hairpiece.

After years of wearing a toupee, Bass decided to go on WJZ without it in 1984. He went on vacation with a hairpiece, but returned without one. The “news” story about Marty’s vanishing hair was covered globally by the Associated Press and UPI. Bass stated that finally, he and WJZ decided to “retire” the old toupee to Boca Raton, Florida (“Where the other retired Northwest Baltimore hairpieces go.”), and that Piedmont Airlines flew it to Florida in first class.

Linh Bui and Meg McNamara have been greeting the WJZ 13 audience every morning this week, and fans are beginning to worry about their beloved TV presenter. Although many people are concerned that Marty has retired after a long career at the station, there is nothing to worry about. The presenters informed the audience this week that Marty’s absence would only be for one week.Marty is on vacation this week and will be back next week. The well-known weatherman joined the WJZ crew in 1977 and became the first anchor of Baltimore’s early morning show. His first co-anchor was none other than Oprah Winfrey, who worked at WJZ in the early 1980s.
