Martha Plimpton is an American actress, activist, and former model well-known for her role in Richard Donner’s The Goonies. In addition, she starred in the films Frozen II, Samantha, Parenthood, The Mosquito Coast, Shy People, Running on Empty, and Samantha. Her performances in Shining City, Pal Joey, The Coast of Utopia, and Top Girls have earned her recognition on Broadway.

Family – Education
She is the daughter of Shelley Plimpton and actor Keith Carradine. Her parents got together while she was starring in Hair’s initial Broadway production. John Carradine, an actor, was her paternal grandpa. She is George Plimpton’s ninth cousin, once removed, the writer and editor. She is also connected to cartoonist Bill Plympton, despite the spelling differences. She went to the Professional Children’s School in Manhattan. Her first stage appearance occurred when her mother brought her onstage in costume for the curtain call of the short-lived Broadway production The Leaf People, followed by another in The Ass and the Heart.
Husband – River Phoenix – Children
In 1985, Plimpton met actor River Phoenix. They didn’t get along right away, but they started dating in February 1986 while co-starring in Peter Weir’s The Mosquito Coast. They went on to co-star in Sidney Lumet’s Running on Empty. Their relationship ended in June 1989 owing to Phoenix’s substance usage, but the two remained close friends until his death in 1993.

In the movie The Goonies, she played Stef. Andy’s best friend is Stephanie Steinbrenner, also known as Stef. She and her family reside in Astoria’s Goon Docks. With short blonde hair and brown eyes, Stef is the second biggest and second oldest gooni after Brand. She frequently wears glasses and earrings that look like mismatched fishing lures.
She also likes to chew gum and blow bubbles out of it. She has on a white blouse, a red jacket, and a thin pink belt worn over the jacket. She also sports a thin red scarf. She’s also wearing some skinny gray sweatpants on. She has a platinum ring on her right ring finger and is decked up in red canvas high top Nike “Almost Hi” (1984) sneakers. Stef wore dark blue overalls, a striped button turtleneck in shades of red, green, and gray, and a jumper with black and red marks on it for the introduction.
Raising Hope
In the film Raising Hope, she plays Virginia Chance. One of the primary characters in Raising Hope, Virginia Slims Chance (née Thompson), is the daughter of Louise Thompson, the granddaughter of Barbara June and Wilfred Thompson. She is also the mother of Jimmy Chance and the wife of Burt Chance.
Virginia, at fifteen, started dating Burt Chance when she was seventeen. At sixteen, she gave birth to her son Jimmy, and she worked very hard to provide him the greatest upbringing possible. She became a grandma at thirty-nine and donated money to Jimmy’s daycare. Virginia was at odds with her cousin Delilah because she was always trying to outdo her. Virginia stole Burt away by covertly revealing to him that she was a lesbian. Virginia’s scoliosis required her to wear a back brace, but Burt finally made it better.
Of all the Chances, Virginia appears to be the most clever and well-educated. She is witty and likes to make fun of others, even her son, yet she also has compassion and kindness. She continues to care for her grandmother Maw Maw in spite of the fact that she bites, forgets who she is, and once used a gun to chase Virginia, Burt, Jimmy, and Sabrina around the home because she believed they were Mongeese. This is one instance of this. Virginia can’t stop adding to her collection of Porkchester pig figurines.
