Russell received the first “Jandoli School of Journalism Award for Excellence in Responsible Journalism” from St. Bonaventure University in 1993. Russell anchored the evening news on KENS-TV in San Antonio, where she also worked as an investigative and courthouse reporter, before joining HEADLINE NEWS in 1983. After a year as a news anchor and military correspondent for KHON-TV in Honolulu, she joined KENS-TV in 1980.
Russell worked as an anchor and reporter for WTLV-TV in Jacksonville, Florida from 1978 to 1979. She was also the Program Director, anchor, and host of a four-hour weekday morning news and interview program at WKAT-TALKRADIO in Miami from 1971 to 1978. Russell is a licensed private investigator who works about 10 hours a week as a detective. She’s also a first-degree black belt in Choi Kwang-Do, a bodyguard for visiting movie stars and celebrities, and a Reserve Deputy Sheriff for Fulton County.
