Biagiotti is the first Sundance New Frontier Artist Residency Fellow, working in collaboration with The Social Computing Group at MIT Media Lab. She is a public speaker on digital journalism as well as independent cinema production and distribution. Biagiotti spent two and a half years reporting for her independent documentary deepsouth, driving 13,000 miles and interviewing over 400 people. She was invited to participate in a 150-stop grassroots film tour across rural America, as well as to speak on the domestic epidemic at The White House and the Clinton Global Initiative. Biagiotti’s writing has appeared in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, The Los Angeles Times, PBS, NPR, The Oxford American, and The Lancet. In her Director’s Statement titled Same Virus, Different Disease, she tells about her 5-year journey making the film.

Biagiotti produced The World’s Toilet Crisis, an hour-long documentary that premiered on Current TV’s Vanguard series in 2010. She created short video series for WNET’s weekly broadcast Worldfocus on under-reported themes such as homophobia in the Caribbean and the humanitarian crisis in eastern Congo, for which she received a Robert F. Kennedy Journalism Award for International Television. Deepsouth, an independent documentary on poverty, HIV/AIDS, and LGBT issues in the rural American South, was directed and produced by her.
