Mouton co-anchored Good Morning San Antonio for KSAT-TV news, the ABC affiliate in San Antonio, Texas, from 4:30 to 7:00 a.m. She joined KSAT in 1999 and has been a broadcast journalist since 1988. At the age of 35, Mouton was found to have a highly aggressive form of breast cancer in October 2000. She consented to having cameras accompany her through the whole course of her treatment, which included radiation, chemotherapy, and surgery. In an attempt to raise awareness of the illness and provide comfort and support to those women afflicted, Mouton anchors a newscast without her wig on, revealing the hair loss brought on by the course of treatment.
Mouton is still publicly discussing her illness in an attempt to inform women of the value of early detection and self-examinations. The book The Breast Cancer Book of Strength and Courage, which has individual chapters written by survivors, includes her narrative. The book’s sales support breast cancer education and research. Mouton and her family can be seen in a PBS documentary on the book. Mouton left KSAT in June 2020 and joined Morgan’s Wonderland Inclusion Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to fostering fair opportunities for those with disabilities, in January 2021.
