Les Dennis Dustin Gee
He together with impressionist Dustin Gee formed a comedy partnership, which in turn led to a series of their own, The Laughter Show. After Gee’s sudden and unexpected death in January 1986, Dennis appeared as a solo artist on The Laughter Show and became Family Fortunes’ third host for a 15-year period between 1987 and 2002. Theatrical agents Stuart and Dorene Gillespie discovered Dennis in 1971. In 1971, on Variety Time, his debut radio broadcast was on BBC Radio Merseyside. He won the ITV talent show New Faces in 1974 and starred in several light entertainment programs. He joined Russ Abbot’s Madhouse and The Russ Ab Bot Show as one of their teams. With fellow impressionist Dustin Gee, he formed a comedy partnership, which in turn led to a series of their own, The Laughter Show. For a 15-year stretch between 1987 and 2002, Dennis was Family Fortunes’ third host. Amos Hart in Chicago and Bill Snibson in the West End are part of his stage work.
Dennis appeared on a UK tour from August 2009 to February 2010 as Mr. Fulton in High School Musical 2. He toured alongside Michael Ball, Brian Conley, and Michael Starke in Hairspray as Wilbur Turnblad. In 2012, he starred in Legally Blonde The Musical’s touring run, playing the role of Professor Callahan. Dennis will perform The Provoked Wife and Venice Preserved with the Royal Shakespeare Company in Restoration plays in 2019.
In an episode of the first series of BBC sitcom Extras in 2005, Dennis starred as a guest star. He appeared and acted in BBC One’s The Sound of Musicals and appeared in New Street Rule. He presented the In the Grid quiz show for Channel 5 in 2007, which aired for one season. Dennis appeared in Cinderella and The Servant of Two Masters at the theatre.
