On May 5, 2022, Jeffries was cast as Annabeth Chase in Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Jeffries suffered online hostility immediately after the casting announcement because she was African-American, despite the fact that her character, Annabeth Chase, was represented as white in the book series on which the show was based.
