Laurel London began her career in commercials in 2002, and she later appeared in music videos for rappers such as Tyrese, Ludacris, JAY-Z, and Pharrell. Her first screen appearance, however, had to wait a few years longer. In 2006, she made her television debut in the episode ‘Everybody Hates Funerals’ of the sitcom ‘Everybody Hates Chris,’ playing Monay. In the same year, she got her first film role in ‘ATL,’ playing Erin “New New” Garnett. On March 31, 2006, ‘ATL’ was released, altering the course of her life. The film not only established her as an actress but also earned her the next role and a nomination for Best Actress in Motion Picture.
‘This Christmas,’ her next film, was released in November 2007. It was a Christmas romantic musical comedy-drama film, and she was cast as Melanie ‘Mel’ Whitfield without having to audition.
