Career
Kightlinger performed on Saturday Night Live from 1994 to 1995. In 1997, she played a groupie in Tenacious D’s episode “Angel in Disguise”. In 2006, she participated in the comedy series The Minor Accomplishments of Jackie Woodman. Kightlinger has three stand-up comedy specials on HBO and six on Comedy Central. Kightlinger appears in the 1997 independent film Who’s the Caboose?, directed by Sam Seder and starring Sarah Silverman.
Kightlinger made the short film Dependable People in 2001, which received the Black Maria Film Festival Director’s Citation (Honorable Mention) as well as the International Festival of Cinema and Technology Best New Director Award in 2002. It was included on the DVD Celebrity Mix with other short films in 2006.
In 2003, she made her first documentary, Sixty Spins Around the Sun, on the New York City street fight to overturn the Rockefeller Drug Laws. It focuses on Randy Credico, a political humorist turned activist, and his efforts to overturn the legislation. The film follows Credico to Tulia, Texas, during a racially motivated narcotics raid. This documentary features stand-up comics Larry David, Colin Quinn, Don Gavin, Vanessa Hollingshead, and Nick DiPaolo. It received Best Documentary at the 2003 Empire State Film Festival, the 2003 Boston International Film Festival, and the 2005 Beverly Hills Film Festival (Jury Award).
Kightlinger starred in Terri Edda Miller’s award-winning short film Dysenchanted in 2005. In 2017, she made a surprise appearance in The Lego Batman Movie as Orca and Reporter Pippa. She has written and directed several short films, including Cat Demon: Re-Exhumed, which may be viewed on her website. Other film credits include: Daddy Day Care, Kicking and Screaming, Wake Up, Ron Burgundy: The Lost Movie, The Truth About Lies, and The Outdoorsman.
Kightlinger has written and appeared in several Funny or Die and Atom.com short films, including “American Heroine” and “Roy Fabcock: Legendary Lover” (2010). Kightlinger supported Senator Bernie Sanders for President in the 2016 United States presidential election.

Kightlinger’s novel, Quick Shots of False Hope, was published in 1999. The New York Times Book Review called it “funny and disturbing,” “memorable,” and “an idiosyncratic and darkly comic debut.” In 2006, she was working on a film adaptation of the book.
