Sampson first featured in two episodes of the ABC Family sitcom Greek in 2008, and then in an episode of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation in 2010. Sampson was cast as Jesse on the CW series The Vampire Diaries in July 2013. In January 2014, Sampson was cast in the Fox drama Gracepoint as Dean Iverson. Sampson appeared in Hayley Kiyoko’s song’s music video in November 2014. In July 2015, Sampson was cast as Caleb Hapstall in the second season of ABC’s courtroom drama How to Get Away with Murder. He also appeared as Nathan Campbell on Issa Rae’s Insecure. Sampson also owns his own production firm, Sampson Studios.
He formed the organization BLD PWR in May 2019 to promote new development, empowerment, and change within marginalized populations and American society. After George Floyd’s murder, Sampson actively engaged in and organized Black Lives Matter protests in Los Angeles. During the protests, Sampson said that police officers beat him and threw rubber bullets at him. In response to the shooting of Jacob Blake, Sampson called for a one-day strike in Hollywood. In 2020, Sampson teamed with JusticeLA to develop #SuingToSaveLives, a public service announcement highlighting the health of people in Los Angeles County jails during the COVID-19 outbreak.
