When she was cast in Native American roles in 2017 and 2018, she said in many interviews that she was “part Cherokee” and had “Native heritage”. She told The New York Times that she was of “Eastern Band Cherokee descent” and that playing an Indigenous woman was “in [her] blood”. As a result, the tribe issued a statement claiming that they had no record of Chow and had found no evidence that she was a descendent. After gaining experience in community theatre, Chow landed her first television job in 2005, playing the recurring character of Gigi Silveri on One Tree Hill at the age of 13 and remaining on the show until 2009.
In 2008, she had a special appearance on The Suite Life of Zack and Cody. She also starred in the Disney Channel original film Den Brother. From 2010 to 2013, Chow costarred as Mikayla in the Disney XD original series Pair of Kings. Chow had a minor role in The Amazing Spider-Man[ and later appeared in the feature picture Run. In 2014, she was cast in Fox’s drama Hieroglyph. However, the series was canceled before its premiere. She co-starred alongside Stefanie Scott in the music video for Hayley Kiyoko’s song “Girls Like Girls” in 2015 and played Tracy Stewart on Teen Wolf season five (the first ten episodes released on June 29, 2015, and the second half premiered on January 5, 2016).
