The American You Tuber first appearance on You Tube was in a Halo 3 You Tube Video from 2009, where he was recorded through the online multiplayer voice-chat. His first You Tube Channel, ‘xDJKEEMSTAR’, was created in 2009, and dedicated to reporting on news within the You Tube community.
Controversies and conflicts
In 2008. during an argument with a moderator named Alex on the website Battlecam.com, Keem encouraged his viewers to type “Alex is a stupid nigger” in the stream’s chat; he later apologized for using the racist slur. In January 2016, Keem posted a tweet directed at TotalBiscuit, a You Tuber who had recently been diagnosed with terminal cancer, saying that he couldn’t wait to report on his death. He later apologized for the tweet.
In May 2016, Ian Carter, known as IDubbbz, released a content cop on Keem, which has over 30 million views on You Tube as of May 2020. In the video, he accused Keem of threatening big You Tubers with negative coverage and promoting small channels or accusing them of hiding something. Carter called Keem a “very rash decision maker” and showed clips of Keem saying what he called “really regrettable shit”. In response, Keem called the content cop video “entertaining” and denied wanting to attack other You Tubers saying he has “no problem booking guests or landing exclusive interviews”. He also apologized for the comments and incidents he caused, but “justified” saying ‘nigger’ jokingly by using a genealogical DNA test to prove he is nine percent black.
In January 2019, You Tuber Jake Paul accused Keem of body-shaming Paul’s then-girlfriend, Erika Costell, after Keem made a tweet comparing her body to Eugenia Cooney, a You Tuber with an eating disorder. In June 2019, after You Tuber Etika committed suicide, several Twitter users blamed Keem for ‘egging on’ the You Tuber, with much of the criticism founded in an interview earlier that year where Keem said “if you really think about it, then why live? Just jump off a cliff. If it’s just a simulation, who cares?” in response of Etika talking about hoe he believed he lived in a simulation. Later Etika’s mother mother defended Keem by texting him afterwards, stating he was not to blame for Etika’s suicide and that he loved Keem and his show.
In May 2020, You Tuber Ethan Klein released a video expose about Keemstar, which resulted in G Fuel ending their sponsorship with him. In November 2020, Keem posted a video on Twitter where he mocked Klein’s Tourette’s syndrome.
