Sowers attended Hesston College and Goshen College in the 2000s for her post-secondary education, before resuming her studies in the 2010s at the University of Central Missouri. Sowers graduated from Central Missouri with a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology in 2012.

Sowers started her football career while completing her studies at Goshen, playing in the Women’s Football Alliance for the West Michigan Mayhem and the Kansas City Titans. While with the Titans, Sowers was a member of the U.S. women’s national American football team that won the 2013 IFAF Women’s World Championship. Sowers continued to play in the WFA until her retirement due in 2016.
In summer 2016, Sowers entered the National Football League as a wide receiver intern with the Atlanta Falcons. Sowers worked with the Falcons as an internal scout after her summer job ended until she transferred to the San Francisco 49ers in June 2017 when she was recruited in accordance with the ‘Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship’ initiative that seeks to help minorities get into NFL coaching positions. Sowers resumed serving as a seasonal offensive assistant with the 49ers until her promotional assistant.
