After earning her degree, she spent a year working as a journalist for the independent South African television station e.tv Africa. She then worked for the Tampa Tribune for two years before joining the Associated Press (AP) in 2007 as a video producer. She was the first political multimedia journalist for the AP. When Barack Obama took office in 2009, Pace started covering the White House and covered the 2008 presidential race. She was appointed chief White House correspondent in 2013 and given the position of Washington bureau head in 2017. As bureau head, she had a significant role in the fact-checking division’s growth as well as the publication of articles explaining how the Associated Press determines election results and projects winners. She is succeeding Sally Buzbee, who in May was named as the first woman executive editor of The Washington Post. Pace is the third consecutive female executive editor of the Associated Press, following Buzbee and Kathleen Carroll, who held the role from 2002 to 2016.
