The inclusion of a female character was revealed as a condition for commissioning the show in the DVD commentary.
Louis-Dreyfus beat out several other actresses who went on to have TV success, including Patricia Heaton and Megan Mullally. Seinfeld says in the DVD package’s “Notes About Nothing” featurette that Louis-Dreyfus’ ability to eat a peanut M&M without breaking the peanut aptly describes the actress: “She cracks you up without breaking your nuts.” Jerry Seinfeld decided to end the series after nine seasons in 1998.
