In addition to responding to international terrorist attacks and kidnappings, some of his assignments included tours of duty abroad embedded with the Department of State, U.S. Special Operations Command, and the CIA, managing crisis communication for counterterrorism, cyber, and counterintelligence investigations, and serving as the FBI Director’s Special Assistant. His efforts in battle zones abroad earned him four FBI Combat Theater awards.
He is well-known for reporting on domestic and international law enforcement concerns as well as breaking news events pertaining to national security. Apart from his work on television, he also writes for CNN.com on a daily basis and has been featured in USA Today, The Washington Post, and The New York Times. He has written a book about the FBI as well. In addition to teaching national security and digital media at the University of Southern California, Campbell is an officer in the Navy Reserve and a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations.
