Gilbert made his television debut at the age of seven, playing Willie Oleson in NBC’s ‘Little House on the Prairie’. The western drama series, based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s ‘Little House’ book series, followed a family that lived on a farm in Minnesota in the 1870s and 1880s. The show ran from 1974 until 1983 and starred Richard Bull, Katherine MacGregor, Dabbs Greer, Kevin Hagen, and Jonathan’s sister, Melissa Gilbert. In 1979, the actor repeated his role of Willie Oleson in the made-for-television film ‘The Little House Years’. He also played Jimmy in Paul Aaron’s ‘Miracle Worker’, a biographical film about the life of Helen Keller, a deaf-blind-mute author and lecturer, and Annie Sullivan’s efforts to teach her. Gilbert then appeared in two of the three television films based on the children’s book series ‘Little House on the Prairie’. These films, called ‘Little House: Look Back to Yesterday’ and ‘Little House: The Last Farewell,’ were released in 1983 and 1984, respectively. Gilbert currently works as a stockbroker and travels extensively across the world. He also worked for a California-based theater business.
