TV. Donvan is an ardent storyteller who debuted his first one-man show “Lose the Kid” in Washington, D.C. in September 2013 with SpeakeasyDC. Previously, he was a reporter for ABC News, where he served as a Moscow and London correspondent before becoming the network’s top White House correspondent in January 1997 and a frequent contributor to Nightline in 1998. In a Different Key: The Story of Autism, written by Donvan and Caren Zucker, a journalist and television news producer, was published in 2016.
Donald Triplett, the first child diagnosed with autism, is one of those shown. Leo Kanner, a psychiatrist and autism pioneer, is also profiled. The book explores the neurodiversity controversy, particularly with regard to low-functioning autistics. Donvan’s broadcast work has received four Emmy Awards, seven Overseas Press Club Awards, two Cine Golden Eagles, and recognition from the National Association of Black Journalists, the Committee of 100, and the Asian-American Media Action Network. He was a finalist for the 2017 Pulitzer Prize in general nonfiction for his book “In A Different Key: The Story of Autism,” and he was also a finalist for the 2011 National Magazine Award for his profile of Donald Triplett. Both compositions were written in collaboration with Caren Zucker.
